My thanks to Lola who brought this news of a new thing called GameCrush.com to my attention. This website, which launched yesterday, supposedly offers a social service where gamer boys can pay to have girls play video games and chat/webcam with them. The girls in turn get paid to be the “PlayDates” in Xbox 360 titles like Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, etc. and PC-based casual games. My first thought: you have got to be kidding me. Stupefied, I went the site to learn more, but it was down when I got there, due to “incredible user response” (oh dear…). However, a quick search online yielded the information I was looking for. GameCrush, along with its shameless business model, is for real. They even have plans to add Playstation 3, Wii, and World of Warcraft to its services. Jeez, where do I start? A feeling of repugnance towards the idea was my first reaction as a girl gamer. I mean, for the love of God, can’t we just play our video games anymore without … [Read more...] about You’re Such a Boob…I Mean, Noob

(There was a topic about future races before, but the link has died, so I'm making this.) Hello peeps! There's a possibility that as the game goes on, we might see more kinds of Beastman. The following are our starters: Bear (Nheedra) Hart (Erwydra) Tiger (Chadra) Wolf (Udoadra) They will all be available in male and female variations. BUT I WANT MORE!! (Surprise surprise the damn furry wants more Beastmen.) Suggest more kinds of Beastmans here and I may add them to the Want List below! (If I can keep up.) I'm starting the topic with only the one that I really want (Rabbit); the rest of you can just go crazy, we'll see how it goes. x_x After this initial mindstorm, I'll work on identifying the most popular races while the game enters a more stable development state, and then somewhere down the yellow brick road we'll see about petitioning the team to add one. (Maybe they'll run a Kickstarter for it. DOOOH HO HO HO HO) Beastmen can swap to a "primal" animal form. Every form has a … [Read more...] about FibS’s big dumb semi-curated NOT official “I want this kind of Beastman!” topic
Massively OP reader Steve wants us to revisit the Daily Grind on making death more meaningful without making it more annoying. His letter was long, so let me paraphrase a bit: “It feels to me like underlying point was, ‘MMOs are too easy, so how do we make them harder?’ The question of video game difficulty is something that is seldom ever tackled head-on, as it tends to draw out a somewhat vocal minority. There are so many worthy topics about how people define difficulty, twitch skills vs. depth, easy vs. hard, difficulty vs. accessibility, easy vs. engaging, shallowness vs. depth, and so on. These are things I’d love to really see discussed more online, and very few sites will actually touch it. But I think that MOP’s community is overall mature enough to actually have some discussions about this without it devolving into a fist fight.” I’m sure you’ll prove him right! Right, guys? Guys? So let’s talk about MMO … [Read more...] about Massively Overthinking: What we really mean when we talk about ‘difficulty’ in MMORPGs
Did you think Sea of Thieves’ patch yesterday, which aimed to address respawn griefing, was going to put an end to players’ torment? Yo-ho-ho not a single chance of that, me hearties. Not while the brig is still in the game. As we’ve previously covered, the “brig” is sort of a milder version of vote-kicking found in other games; if you annoy enough of your fellow crew, they can dump you in the brig of the ship, locking you up until you apologize or whatever. Rare defended it as a “creative” solution that allowed people to roleplay their way out of a bad social situation. But just as it did with its proposed (and since canceled) harsh death tax, Rare is now finding out the hard way that if you give a griefer an inch, he’ll take a mile, and now the tool meant to curb griefers is actually being used by them to, you guessed it, grief everyone else. As Kotaku explains, the new stunt is being called “insta-brigging,” and it’s … [Read more...] about Here’s something nobody saw coming, and by nobody we mean everybody: Sea of Thieves griefers are abusing the brig
