The reason you won’t be able to play Fallout 76 with your friends on consoles is because of Sony, according to Bethesda studio director Todd Howard. A recent interview with a German site had Howard claiming that while Bethesda would like to do cross-platform play, “Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like.” Bethesda declined to elaborate on the statement when asked for further clarification by Polygon. Cross-platforming issues have been in the news quite a bit recently, with Fortnite’s launch on Nintendo Switch being coupled with the surprising lack of cross-platform play for PlayStation 4 players. The last statement from the company was that it was “looking into possibilities,” so it remains to be seen both whether or not those possibilities will bear fruit and whether or not they’ll be resolved in time for everyone to enjoy Fallout 76 together. With players compiling a massive amount of useful information and Noclip releasing a making-of documentary for Fallout 76, we’re starting to arrive at a much better understanding of what this game will be. We learned a lot of new information from this video, such as the fact that all players will be able to see where each other are on any given map, that players will have to work together to solve puzzles in order to unlock the nuclear warhead bunkers, and that there are safeguards in place to keep consensual PvP from becoming a ganker’s paradise. The team also mentioned things like mutation traits, cosmetic microtransactions, free DLC, the ability to repair weapons, special perk cards, and the lack of player corpse looting. The studio dealt with the major shift from single-player to multiplayer as well “It’s a mindset change,” said Design Director Emil Pagliarulo. “You have folks here who have been making single-player quests for so long, and what … [Read more...] about Here’s everything you want to know about Fallout 76, including the making-of documentary
On Sunday night, the Massively OP staff gathered in our virtual office to watch and discuss the Bethesda conference. There really was a little something for all of us, including reveals and enough cheesiness to mock. But for me, I was there to hear more about Fallout 76 and to get a feel for the vision that the studio has for its next installment of this post-apocalyptic franchise. I’ll be up front about this: I was cheering so hard when I heard that the studio was taking the game to an online multiplayer setting. It’s been something I’ve wanted to see happen for ages now, and I can’t wait to comb the wasteland as a scavenger and hang out with others. That said, there’s a lot of concern over the PvP angle, including the decision to hand over nuclear warheads to players to launch. For those of us who want to play with others and build structures without harassment, it does raise some concerns. While we need to hear a lot more in terms of specifics of how … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: Will Fallout 76 be a griefer’s paradise or a gamer’s dream?
Right now, every Fallout fan in the world has been singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” nonstop for the past week or so. That’s probably not going to change after seeing the first gameplay trailer for the next installment of this popular post-apocalyptic series. At the Microsoft E3 showcase, Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 76 will feature a world four times as big as the one of Fallout 4 and will serve as a prequel to the rest of the series. The game will be set shortly after the nuclear apocalypse and send players across West Virginia to explore (and possibly rebuild) a ruined world. Some sort of online component is rumored, although we’ll have to wait until the Bethesda conference later today to find out more. As for the trailer, it seems to feature a world that’s a little more lush and much less deteriorated than the ones we’re used to seeing in other Fallout titles. We’ll take you home with some new colorful footage after the break! … [Read more...] about E3 2018: Fallout 76 is absolutely massive — and here’s the trailer
