Despite being level 80, I still have a slew of side quests I didn’t complete, which I’m regulating to his secondary job. I also played through all of the dungeons with Trusts this time, trying that system out for the first time, and really liked how it felt. A few of the boss fights that I had trouble with the first time I played through made a lot more sense when I was able to watch the Trust team handle the mechanics. … [Read more...] about FFXIV: Shadowbringers – Second Time Through MSQ

– PC MMORPG dives into the mobile world for a second time
First, the obvious negative from the start includes the gender and race-locked classes. I am not so much into this feature, since the limitation is to make sure Forsaken World is not 10 GB in size and cause massive lag on the battlefields since the connection has to render so many different characters. I was surprised that the specific Trion folks I spoke to had never even heard of it. I don’t expect every dev to know the whole MMO-sphere, but Raph Koster’s collection of post-mortems about virtual communities shows that certain issues keep coming back up, so being unaware of the recent history of a major competitor to which your game is being compared stikes me as a recipe for disaster. It’s a bit late in the game’s development to rectify this and ensure that 2050 doesn’t repeat SWL‘s mistakes, but I hope bringing it up in a face to face discussion encourages more history-savvy devs on the team to speak up. … [Read more...] about E3 2018: A second look at Trion’s Defiance 2050 reboot

Even better, Pantropy’s crowdfunding campaign ended up hitting five stretch goals before it concluded. This means that fans can look forward to more boss creatures, PvE-only servers, a professionally written story, a single-player mode, and (naturally) orbital laser strikes. … [Read more...] about Pantropy’s second Kickstarter successfully funds and hits five stretch goals along the way
