Fallen Earth NPCs are downright hilarious to observe, particularly since many of them have scripted conversations and actions that unfold if you stop to watch. One such event that I witnessed tonight: … [Read more...] about Gil and Rufus: A Fallen Earth story
This is a topic I was recently asked the other day by a colleague of mine who is involved in business consulting for large corporations. The question made me think about how much has changed in society (whether we realize it or not) as a result of social media. Think about it, it was only approximately 20 some odd years ago that the average person was beginning to become associated with the internet. Prior to that, the internet was mostly reserved for academia and various government agencies. Before that it was only reserved for the U.S. government (the official origins of the internet began back in 1969 with the U.S. military's funding of a research network dubbed "Arpanet"). Today, we have not only the internet, but we have social media tied in there as well. The Term Social Media "media" is a place where publications occur. "social" implies that there is sharing occurring. A sharing of ideas, opinions, images. The social in social media also implies the tools, places and services … [Read more...] about How Much Has Social Media Changed Society?
I Love Mini-Pets One of my favorite things in any game is the collection of mini-pets and in Final Fantasy XIV they have a truly silly amount of them. In talking to a guildie today I realized just how contorted it is to try and figure out how to get each of them. They come from vendors, achievements, quests, an random raid and dungeon drops. I thought for today’s post I would attempt to pull together a rudimentary list of where you can obtain which minions. This will likely not be a complete list, but it is a good first attempt. I will try and update it for new data as I find what I am missing. Purchased Minions This is probably the least complete of the information I have, but if you really want to find out how to get each of the minions, click the link and follow up to find out where the vendor is located. Some of these require you to complete certain FATEs to get the vendor to show up. Anything marked Special event means it is from a … [Read more...] about Final Fantasy XIV Minion Guide
I used to have this really cool job at a comic book store that was also an internet lounge, of sorts (I was the token female on staff). On light days I would sit behind the counter reading comics or watch people play World of Warcraft on the computers. The other awesome thing was the conventions. When I wasn’t behind the booth, I was running around getting my books signed or sketches from the artists. But all that was a while ago; I haven’t been back to a convention with a vendor or as a guest in years. But well, spring is around the corner and that means the beginning of the convention circuit, and I thought it would be nice to go back to one again. Arguably, all the best comic cons are south of the border, but Toronto’s no slouch either. This weekend was the Wizard World Toronto Comic Con 2010, and seeing as it was such a nice day today, my husband and I decided to go out for lunch and hit the convention on the way. It wasn’t a bad show, but I was only a fan … [Read more...] about Toronto Comic Con
Slowing Down For most of us in House Stalwart the wild ride that was the Final Fantasy XIV storyline has come to a conclusion. As a result a large number of us have dialed back our playtime a bit to recover. This is only magnified by the fact that the game that none of us may speak of is having yet another event and a large number of us are actively playing that. The storyline was extremely exceptional and did everything I would expect in the ending of a classic final fantasy game. However this time it left the door completely open. It felt much like that first time you transitioned Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past into the Dark World. It feels like we just scratched the surface of the game, which I guess is how the ending of the storyline content should feel in every MMO. Lots of things are resolved, but very quickly you realize that nothing at all is truly resolved. Now that we have spent all the storyline we are left with the fact that … [Read more...] about End Game
