If you woke up just now and are eagerly planning to jump right into DC Universe Online, we’ve got some bad news for you, as the game has gone down for maintenance to apply game update 92. The downtime is expected to last up to eight hours, which means that it could last until 4:30 p.m. EDT. So if today is your day off and you wanted more game time, well… we’re sorry. The bright side is that you can catch a little more of what’s going into the patch with the special preview livestream arriving at noon EDT today. The patch brings back the Resurgence Mega Pack as well as prepares for the St. Patrick’s Day event later on, so there should at least be some entertaining new diversions in the livestream; it’s not quite as comforting as playing the game for fans – and not quite the bombshell that the next big content drop in March will be – but it’s not nothing. … [Read more...] about DC Universe Online launches game update 92 today and preps for St Patrick’s Day

One of the most interesting things about EVE Online is the fact that its single shard server forces players from different countries and cultures to co-exist in the same space. In a virtual universe in which the distances and barriers between real world nations should be meaningless, players still tend to split off into geographical and cultural analogues of their home nations. Some of that is due to timezone differences, of course, but the biggest drivers of division always seem to be language-based or cultural in nature. EVE has seen plenty of real-world national identities mirrored in-game, from big American coalitions throwing their military might around and European corps working together when it suits them to Russian groups stubbornly defending their homelands from invasion no matter the cost. The Russian community in particular has always seemed pretty impenetrable to outsiders, having developed its own distinct identity over the years with its own internal culture and even … [Read more...] about EVE Evolved: What really sets Russian EVE players apart?

Of course, it’s hard to catch up with all of the possible events, but we’ve endeavored to get a full roundup of events in here; if you see one we missed, let us know about it! We love hearing all about the latest snow-and-candy-cane explosion in a game world. That’s not a joke, it’s serious. “Happy Frostval, hero! The time has once again arrived for heroes and frost moglins alike to crowd close around the hearth, sing merry Frostval tunes, and mercilessly slaughter snow monsters. Travel to … [Read more...] about The Massively Overpowered 2018 winter holiday roundup
There was a TED talk that was given by a doctor from Harvard Medical School, Atul Gawande. In his talk titled ‘How do we heal medicine?’ he says that the answer to performing successful surgeries on a continuous basis was using Checklists. An important piece of content from the video talks about the power of using a checklist. We implemented this checklist in eight hospitals around the world, deliberately in places from rural Tanzania to the University of Washington in Seattle. We found that after they had adopted it the complication rates fell 35 percent. It fell in every hospital it went into. The death rates fell 47 percent. This was bigger than a drug. This was so powerful and useful that he made a book about it, called the Checklist Manifesto. Checklists are like recipes in cooking, if we follow it to the T, we cannot go wrong. Checklists also afford you one benefit; you do not have to remember everything. Checklists also is great when working with teams, if you … [Read more...] about The Checklist App that Will Make You Hyper Efficient
