It was an open secret that Funcom was working on a new game targeted for Halloween – in fact, Funcom and its subsidiary and partner studios have been working on a ton of games. But one that had our attention was the unnamed title slated for the spookiest time of the year, since Funcom has a bit of a tradition of building Halloween one-off games, including Hide and Shriek and The Park, both of which borrowed from The Secret World MMO’s IP. As of this morning, we know more about the new game. It’s a “cosmic horror game” called Moons of Madness and developed by Rock Pocket Games, and while it’s not an MMO, it is using the Secret World IP once again. “Set on Mars in a not-so-distant future, Moons of Madness mixes the scientific exploration of the red planet with the supernatural dread of Lovecraftian horror. […] In Moons of Madness you play Shane Newehart, a technician stationed at the Invictus, a secret research base built by the Orochi … [Read more...] about Funcom’s next horror game, Moons of Madness, is set in the Secret World universe

Hrrmm, creepy black veins around my screen. What could go wrong? From its launch, I’ve praised The Secret World as the most fun and interesting MMO I’ve played in years, and that I plan on sticking to it for a long time especially if they keep up with their monthly updates. I know there have been some hiccups along the way for Funcom, including some restructuring and staff layoffs, but against all odds they’ve managed to catch up and maintain their update schedule! What is this? How dare they keep their promises! Now where the hell am I going to find the time to play all this new content?! Unforgivable, I tell you… Yeah, I’ll be the first to admit I’m no good at MMO juggling. Being able to concentrate on one game at a time appeals more to my personality, but I try and try anyway. Thanks to Guild Wars 2 and now World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, I’ve been shelving TSW to play again when things calm down a little, but it doesn’t help … [Read more...] about The Secret World: Monday Night Thrill-Seekers
Back in October, we covered the heart-warming story of a Secret World Legends player who wrote a novel based on the game’s IP. The best part was that Funcom gave author Amber “Blodwedd Mallory” McKee the licensing go-ahead to do it in the first place, when y’all know that most IP holders would sooner whip out a lawsuit. Warm fuzzies all around. The first book, TO SIR, WITH LOVE: An Unofficial Legend of The Secret World, came out last year, while a sequel, LONDON UNDERGROUND: An Unofficial Legend of The Secret World, just released at the end of January. And now McKee has generously offered a stack of digital copies for our readers! “TO SIR, WITH LOVE: An Unofficial Legend of The Secret World – When the world ends, the fog rolls into Solomon Island and the dead start to rise. Innsmouth Academy senior Blodwedd Mallory fights to save her school from the destruction. But can she uncover secrets of the Academy’s dark history in time to stop … [Read more...] about Enter to win a digital copy of one of the Unofficial Legend of The Secret World novels!
Ugh…world…too bright. What can I say? I had fun in The Secret World “One Month Celebration” weekend. Maybe a little too much fun. Yep, one month into TSW and still going strong. Pretty big deal for a game I had initially written off as “just something to pass the time.” Like some blind date set up by an obscure yet well-meaning relative, I never expected my stint with TSW to lead anywhere, but it just goes to show again that anything can happen. As we wind down from the game’s first month celebration, I even find myself suffering a little from “lifetime sub envy”, wistfully contemplating the wisdom of my friends and fellow players who have upgraded to the Grand Master Pack. And let me tell you something: I. Don’t. Do. Lifetime. This is why feeling this way is kind of a shock. My struggles with the decision of getting my own LTS notwithstanding, I will definitely keep playing into a second month. I see a lot of potential in TSW … [Read more...] about The Secret World: Post-Celebration Hangover
Inspired by my post from yesterday, I have to say that one of my favorite things about playing Barbie Dress-Up–I mean, The Secret World is the many looks I can come up with for my character. It’s not enough that the game’s missions and the theorycrafting potential of the ability wheel can keep me busy for hours; I probably head to London’s Pangaea every other day just to buy new outfits from the in-game clothing vendors there to fill up my dressing room. I am embarrassed to even think about how much Pax Romana (TSW’s in-game currency) I have spent on clothes alone. And let’s not forget the other sources of clothing items. For the fashionistas like me, here’s a list of clothing rewards you can obtain from quests, achievements, etc. so far. I have not even had to spend any real world money in the store, and don’t think I even need to. I’m going to echo my cabal leader’s sentiments here and say that probably one of wisest choices … [Read more...] about The Secret World Of Laeyn The Vain
