A few weeks ago we witnessed the showdown of the ages (or at least the epoch known as “late January 2019”), as Massively OP readers voted on and debated the best MMO soundtrack of all time. All Time, people. This was no trivial matter! There were links to songs, wails over particular titles being overlooked, and not a small amount of vote brigading going on. When all was said, done, and voted, we ended up with a list. A top 10 list, as a matter of fact. To be sure, a lot of these votes were based on game popularity and familiarity — seriously, if everyone took the time to go through the Lineage II OST, it would be a crowd favorite — but it’s an interesting assortment that shows our mutual ties to video games and their soundtracks. So let the countdown begin, as we start at number 10 and make the journey to see which title won the day! What’s the best MMO of all time? You’re about to find out… Narrowly edging out SWTOR for a spot on this … [Read more...] about Jukebox Heroes: The 10 greatest MMO soundtracks of all time (as voted by you)
Top 10 mmorpg of all time
I’ve done my fair share of “top 10” videos over the last two years and generally I list a fair amount of the same games. Henceforth, every month I’ll be doing a “top 10 MMORPGs you should play in x month” video featuring different MMOs you should take a moment to try. Now let’s do this. I gotta start this video with Scarlet Blade Vendetta. I’ve played RaiderZ a few times over the last 2 years, although it was under – once again, private server management. That is because Perfect World Entertainment actually closed the game down, unfortunately. This is an old one, releasing all the way back in 2005. Silkroad Online is a fantasy themed MMORPG that takes place along the Silk Road between China and Europe in the 7th century AD. Ah, one of the early supposed “WoW killers”. I feel like this list should be titled “MMORPGs released in 2012 worth playing in 2019” as Wakfu, like the previous games … [Read more...] about 10 MMORPGs You Should Totally Play In February, 2019.
A great MMO expansion brings so much to the table: fresh excitement for a game, new classes, innovative features, expanded vistas, additional races, and more. Pull it off right, and studios rake in big bucks while a spike in player interest sends the crowds in to see the current popular thing. That’s a great MMO expansion, and we all have our favorites. But a bad one? One that goes down in infamy as the worst that the game had to offer? One that stinks up the joint, repels players in droves, and makes good, functional things far worse? Those are the ones that we hold grudges against for years. Today we’ll be looking at ten of the worst MMORPG expansions of all time, specific to larger, more popular MMOs rather than itty-bitty ones. To be sure, some people still loved them and some of these packs weren’t quite as bad as some players made them out to be, but in general, here are ten releases that probably shouldn’t have happened as they did. World of Warcraft: … [Read more...] about Perfect Ten: The worst MMORPG expansions of all time
“Fortnite is now the largest free-to-play console game of all time, in revenue generated and monthly active users,” SuperData has declared in its monthly revenue report for the gaming industry for March 2018. The game sits at the tippy-top of the console listing and has now breezed past both PUBG and World of Warcraft to sit at #5 on PC. “Fortnite had quite a March. The game has overtaken the previous ‘king of battle royale,’ PUBG, in terms of revenue generated and monthly active users across all platforms. It also hit the #1 spot by revenue on iOS in the United States in its launch month, and has the highest conversion rate of any free-to-play PC game in March. […] There’s no other way to say it: the game is a phenomenon. Fortnite generated $223 million across all platforms (console, PC, Mobile) in March, up a whopping 73% from February.” Hearthstone’s re-entry to the PC side has bumped Far Cry 5 out of the top 10 (though Far Cry 5 … [Read more...] about Fortnite has become the ‘largest free-to-play console game of all time,’ SuperData says
Did you know about all the MMOs I hate? I sure as heck didn’t! I mean, I knew there were a few games I hated (Scarlet Blade, Alganon) and some that I have pretty poor feelings toward for various reasons (Star Citizen, EVE Online, League of Legends, H1Z1: Kash of the Kow), but those are also games I discuss only in particular circumstances. Yet thankfully, I have been informed over the near-decade of writing about MMOs that there are a number of games I thought I liked but that I do, in fact, hate. This was a surprise to me, but I think that for purposes of comprehension, it’s best for me to list for reference all the games that I apparently utterly despise. It’s all very confusing to me, but I’m confident that by sharing and making the occasional off-color joke, I’ll be able to decipher it all. 1. The Elder Scrolls Online When I played The Elder Scrolls Online for the game’s beta phase, I had very little nice to say. This was due to a number of … [Read more...] about Perfect Ten: A list of all the MMORPGs I supposedly hate
