Trion Worlds, the company behind ArcheAge, Trove, and Rift, acquired the assets of the now defunct game developer Gazillion Entertainment which previously published Marvel Heroes. Trion acquired "Gazillion licenses, trademarks, patents and domains, in addition to its library of games." Gazillion Entertainment shut down after Disney chose not the renew the Marvel license with the company. Even with today's acquisition news, players should not expect a relaunch of Marvel Heroes. Trion intends on integrating Gazillion's tech with their Glyph platform to better support their existing games and help expand their business to game publishing. Trion Worlds revealed today that they acquired the assets and production materials from the closure of Gazillion Entertainment. They will be utilizing these materials to create new products and new IPs. Per this sale, Tiron Worlds obtains all licenses, trademarks, patents, and domains, in addition to their library of games. This acquisition builds on Trion’s role as a publishing partner, capable of bolstering game developers in many key areas – operations, networking, performance, security, player acquisition and analytics on a global scale. The growth of technical capabilities coupled with the Trion Glyph program has put them in a position to offer partners a powerful suite of support and infrastructure for their games. In an astounding twist of events, Venture Beat is reporting this week that Trion Worlds has acquired the assets from defunct studio Gazillion Entertainment. As part of its acquisition, Trion will get its hands on all of Gazillion’s licenses, trademarks, patents, and domains. In addition to utilizing the new licenses for its own purposes, Trion Worlds is also apparently using Gazillion’s assets to create a platform for third party developers to distribute their titles as well as an engine that reports to speed up the development cycle of isometric games, presumably one that was used on Marvel Heroes and Marvel Heroes Omega.
