The Star Citizen community was once again rocked yesterday by the addition of new pixelstuff to buy ahead of launch, this time in the form of land claim licenses. Running $50-$100, the licenses “[entitle] you to claim a single 4km x 4km [8km x 8km for the pricier version] parcel of UEE land that has been zoned for commercial, residential or industrial use as well as a GEOTACK marking beacon.” While people-who-are-totally-OK-with-this and people-who-have-totally-had-enough fight this out on Reddit, Cloud Imperium has stressed that the claims are not pay-to-win. “Will I have an advantage over other players if I buy a claim license now? No. Licenses can be bought for UEC in game and no one will be able to claim land before the mechanic is available in game for all. People that own claim licenses now, during the anniversary sale to support development, and people that earn the money in-game to buy one will be on equal footing assuming they have enough UEC, especially … [Read more...] about Move over, pixel ships: Star Citizen is now selling pixel land claims

Star Citizen’s 3.2 quarterly alpha update is fully live, with new ships, mining, and cash-shop features
Star Citizen’s alpha 3.2 has finally and formally released to all comers, CIG announced this weekend. “In the new patch, Star Citizen players can use the Prospector ship’s mining arm to gather and sell resources harvested from the three moons, adding new gameplay and a huge resource to the game’s burgeoning economy. On the technical side, Alpha 3.2 dramatically improves upon the grouping system, delivering on the Star Citizen community’s most requested feature stemming from a vote in March of 2018. This new feature enables up to fifty players to travel the universe together as they enjoy the game’s more than thirty varying, procedurally-generated, mission types. NPC ship AI has also been improved with new behaviors that give in-game enemies a lot more teeth.” Also worth … [Read more...] about Star Citizen’s 3.2 quarterly alpha update is fully live, with new ships, mining, and cash-shop features

Our inbox exploded last night with Star Citizen tips, and that can mean only one thing: money shenanigans. In-game money, that is, but this is Star Citizen we’re talking about, a game where out-of-game money very much buys you in-game stuff. So here’s the deal. Up until now, backers were able to hoard some in-game credits (UEC) but not gigantic piles. That’s no longer the case, as the total cap on this currency has now been lifted, meaning that early backers can stockpile bajillions and bring it with them into the launched version of the game, which is probably still years away. That’s a lot of piles of cash. Cloud Imperium has confirmed that the hard cap was removed intentionally; it wasn’t just a bug. “It seems the cap was removed when UEC melting was brought in,” CIG’s Kraiklyn told Spectrum-goers. “However, there is still a daily cap of 25k per 24 hours.” Reddit is, predictably, torn on whether or not this is a serious … [Read more...] about Star Citizen fans raise pay-to-win objections over removal of in-game currency stockpiling cap
