Ever since the tone-deaf SOE proclamation that nobody wanted to play Uncle Owen in an MMORPG, contrary me has consciously fought that very stupid idea. A whole lot of people wanted to play Uncle Owen, then and now, there and elsewhere. Star Wars Galaxies was a game half full of Uncle Owens. I spent a lot of time literally becoming a moisture farmer as my own form of rebellion. Such is the argument made by a recent PC Gamer article, which in its own precious mainstream way argues that “MMOs need to let you be an average Joe” to get out of the clear “creative slump” they’re in. “With their scale and permanence, MMOs give us the chance to be citizens in a make-believe world we create with the help of our fellow players. When it’s … [Read more...] about Massively Overthinking: Being Uncle Owen in MMORPGs

E3 Weekend Roundup: EA/Microsoft/Bethesda
It is that time again… like Pete Smith said it is very much like rushing home to find the Sears Christmas Book sitting on your door step filled with toys you have never heard of and begin daydreaming about. This is really the time of the year I look forward to the most when it comes to gaming information. It is also the time of the year when I try and lock my excitement away in a box and guard myself against the fact that a lot of the promises that are being made won’t actually see the light of day. That said it is still an insanely fun time to be a gamer and blogger… and as is my tradition I sit down and write about the shows as I watch them. Electronic Arts – Saturday June 9th First up this E3 Season is the Electronics Arts conference which thankfully happened while I was gone at a family reunion. I say … [Read more...] about E3 Weekend Roundup: EA/Microsoft/Bethesda
