Feeling more than a little antsy as you continue to wait for your PvP dreams to come true in Crowfall? You could chew off your fingernails… or you could dip back into one of the core MMORPGs that inspired ArtCraft’s upcoming project. Yes, we’re talking about the late Shadowbane, which ran from 2003 to 2009. Since then, a team of fans have picked up the pieces of the code and refashioned it into the Shadowbane Emulator (SBEmu). Part of this project and the game itself is the idea of doing a complete refresh once in a while, which is why the volunteer team is performing a complete wipe of the servers on June 28th followed by a launch of Season 5 of a new PvP war. Here’s the fan’s elevator pitch as to why you should (or shouldn’t) play this emulator: “This is an incredibly unforgiving MMORPG. It is open, unrestricted PvP with full inventory loot, inclusive of gold (there is a bank and vault system, though). You keep what’s equipped, but it … [Read more...] about Shadowbane’s player-run rogue server wipes to start a new season
Wentworth new season
Quake Champions‘ March update kicked off Season 2, and you know what that means in a free-to-play PvP game — that’s right, a new battle pass! Rewards for this season include the Flintlock Shotgun, Visor Plasma Emissions System, and the Tesla Lightning Gun. As a convenience for this season, rewards are auto-granted instead of needing to be manually picked up and the XP required to get to level 100 has been nearly halved, down to 55% of what was needed in Season 1. Even if you don’t pay for Quake Champions, this patch has a lot for you. All players, free or paid, can create custom matches, and the free champion rotation now includes two champions per week. One way to pay, however, has been removed: the Champions Pack, which previously granted you access to all champions for one price, has been discontinued. Now you’ll have to earn champions via currency, earned either in-game (shards) or purchased (platinum). id Software also announced the new esports season … [Read more...] about Quake Champions’ New Season Is Underway, World Championship Announced
In the Closers update dropping tonight it appears that the nights are for hunters. Hunter’s Night is the name of the first part of the new season, for example, and it’s also the new town hub that players will unlock. This means new mission dungeons, new endgame dungeons, and of course new gear and improvements to existing equipment. Players will also be able to unlock new costumes along the way, so long as they meet the minimum level of 80 to start accessing the new content. The level cap is also being raised to 85 for all characters with this patch, so everyone’s going to be spending some time gaining those levels; there’s also a competition to see who can reach that level cap first, as you would no doubt expect. Combine that with new offerings in the game’s EMP store and there’s plenty to chew on in the update; the only downside is that you’ll need to wait a little while longer, as maintenance is set to start at midnight EST. … [Read more...] about Closers brings its Rogue Agents update with a new season and level cap
Play Final Fantasy XIVFans of PvP combat in Final Fantasy XIV will be able to find out who is the best among them when the Feast finals take place, but if you were hoping to qualify for that competition… well, your time is up. The preliminaries have ended, and with that contest season 8 of the Feast has come to a close. The next round for would-be champions is the semifinals, with the North American finals taking place at this year’s Fan Festival. Those who didn’t qualify or didn’t wish to in the first place can still find something new to fight over, though, with season 9 starting now and running until the game’s next major patch. There’s also new armor available to players who rank highly, so if you’d avoided striving before because you disliked the old armor or already had it, you can get new rewards now! Assuming you amass sufficient victories to climb to the top of the rankings, of course. Play LOTRO for freeLet us travel back to 2009, when Lord of the Rings Online released its second expansion pack, Siege of Mirkwood. This pint-sized expansion seemed underwhelming with its options (although it did give us one of my favorite zones in the game), especially after the grandeur that was Moria. However, Mirkwood did factor in a new feature that made a pretty big splash with players: skirmishes. Skirmishes were a new type of instanced content that could be scaled in both difficulty and group size, both of which felt revolutionary at the time. They threw players into either an offensive or defensive quest, challenging the group to conquer piles of foes and continue to press onward by claiming flags, defending areas, and defeating optional side objectives. To make matters even more interesting, players got to bring along a soldier companion to assist, and this soldier could be modified and trained to become more effective. People, by and large, really liked this system, but for … [Read more...] about LOTRO Legendarium: Are the new seasonal instances a win or a whimper?
