Today is a special day. It’s the 8th anniversary of ShoutMeLoud. And all of this started with a conversation between two friends… Me (Harsh): Hey Dude, can I borrow your credit card!? Ankit: Why? Me: I want to buy hosting & a domain name for my blog. Ankit: You are mad! Are you sure about it? Me: Yes, I’m sure. And he gave me his credit card. It was on 30th November 2008 when I made my first ever online purchase (technically someone else made the purchase because it was his credit card). This purchase was for a domain name and hosting. It seems like yesterday since I launched ShoutMeLoud. It’s something which started from a one room flat and has become a global enterprise. It’s inspired, guided, and touched the lives of many people around the globe. Today, on 1st December, ShoutMeLoud turns eight years old, and it’s been an epic journey thus far. Something that I started out of passion has turned into an identity of itself. Here are some … [Read more...] about ShoutMeLoud is 8 Years Old!
What year was it 16 years ago
Crowdfunded indie PvP sandbox Albion Online officially launched last summer, finding so much initial success that its servers were hammered and it even suffered a round of extortion-centered DDOS attacks before settling into a scaled-down MMO live team and playerbase. So it always surprises me that the game never came to Steam, in spite of the fact that it was Greenlit on the platform four years ago. The team announced in March it was rectifying that oversight, and as of today, we now have a date: May 16. That’s for PC, Mac, and Linux. “With its availability on this new platform, the sandbox MMOPRG will now also offer standard Steam features, including achievements – and as a thank-you to veteran players, all achievements developed for the Steam launch will also be available in the native Albion Online client.” There’s a bonus expies event too. “To celebrate the release on Steam, the Berlin-based … [Read more...] about Albion Online is coming to Steam on May 16 – check out the latest trailer
Apparently, this screenshot was taken today, 10 years ago, on March 16, 2009. It’s the first screenshot I took of the “real” Lord of the Rings Online. A friend had referred me and I had just started my free 14 day trial before finally buying the game. When I found this screenshot, I was confused at first, why I had chosen an elf as my first character, but I remember now: I wanted a female character, I liked the champion class’s description and I found the female human’s face much too pouty. So there was only the elf left to play! Lord of the Rings Online launched two years earlier, though. I remember giving the game a try very early on. So the earliest screenshot per se is from September 2007. I’d played the game with the German client back then. It may have been a free trial or something like that. But I had still played World of Warcraft at the time and did not want to pay for a second subscription game. I had also found the combat to be too slow … [Read more...] about Screenshot Saturday: 10 years in LotRO
EverQuest’s 20th anniversary isn’t going unnoticed and unobserved in the gaming community this month. In fact, several MMO bloggers have raised a glass to toast the long-running title. Kaozz said it was where she first met her husband: “EverQuest was like nothing I had experienced before, it was a different time and people were different. It really was a wonderful experience. I have many great memories, many annoying memories as well, corpse runs, losing levels and so on. I did meet my husband there 16 years ago, and that is my favorite memory.” And Bhagpuss is jazzed for all of the anniversary events: “It’s all jolly exciting! Happy Birthday EverQuest. Let’s hope for many more to come!” GamingSF: Filling a gap with EverQuest II “The system I’m probably the most familiar with after the Foundry is the Dungeon Maker in Everquest II. As noted before it has quite severe limitations at least where my personal interest is concerned … [Read more...] about Global Chat: Looking back at 20 years of EverQuest
World of Warcraft Classic officially went live 15 minutes ago and every single one of the game's ~12 servers have over 10,000+ queues to get in. This post is going up as I sit in queue on Incendius and I'm excited to get on. To try reducing queue times Blizzard added 4 new North American and 5 new European servers on launch, but those servers are all full as well. World of Warcraft currently has ~1.1M concurrent viewers on Twitch with popular streamers like Asmongold reaching over 250,000+ viewers. Given the huge popularity of of WoW Classic on launch day, I suspect Blizzard will release launch statistics in the next 48 hours. While Blizzard stopped reporting Subscription numbers years ago, I suspect they'll report stats for WoW classic simply because they'll want to show off its success. To celebrate the launch of WoW Classic and 15 years of World of Warcraft, Blizzard released the following video: FacebookTwitterReddit Related … [Read more...] about WoW Classic is Live, All 16+ Servers has 10K+ Queues
