It is probably not a surprise that players with access to the World of Warcraft Classic demo download have already cracked open the client and started playing… in a way. YouTuber Dodgy Kebaab has posted a video of running about in the classic client in a sandbox server, which means no quests, no NPCs, no… well, anything. But you can see what the Classic client looks like and compare it to things like private servers, which is relevant. There are, to be fair, some graphical differences between the client and the classic game, graphical options which didn’t exist at the time, better lighting, and so forth. There is a button to revert the Classic client back to looking like the 2005 version of the game, which is nice for those who want to experience the game in its most true-to-life version. Check out the video below if you’d like to see the demo before you play it as part of the virtual ticket or just get to see more footage of it when people do start playing. … [Read more...] about The World of Warcraft Classic demo has been cracked open and explored (somewhat)
World of warcraft classic server
Blizzard raised some eyebrows — and perhaps excitement — by announcing that it would be allowing both attendees and virtual ticket holders at BlizzCon the opportunity to play a demo of World of Warcraft Classic. Now, it’s obvious why the studio didn’t save this for a big stage announcement; got to sell them $50 tix, after all! But I can’t fault the studio for shrewd marketing and selling a $50 demo from 2004 to fans. We’re suckers for nostalgia. It’s not a particularly big draw for me. I’ll still peek at the game when it goes live, but I don’t need a demo to remind me what vanilla WoW was like. I suspect that for many people, this will be a quick way to satisfy curiosity in a few departments: Is playing vanilla WoW actually fun today or is it something we merely remember as fun but the times have changed? Can Blizzard pull this off and bring back classic-era WoW the way it was? Are there things about WoW vanilla that we forget? How … [Read more...] about What will we get out of the World of Warcraft Classic demo at BlizzCon?

Blizzard’s been really quiet about World of Warcraft: Classic since last November’s BlizzCon — at least until recently, when the studio posted a dev blog to talk about where it’s at with the project. The big news is that the team has decided on Patch 1.12 to be the foundation for Classic, which was a major question among the community. It went on to discuss the challenges and decisions to make the game work and bring its backend up to spec. I read it, interested for the news but also finding myself feeling rather cool toward the whole project. I mean, I’m glad it’s being done. I think there’s definitely an audience for a classic server, and it will no doubt bolster the game’s population and create an interesting sub-community of WoW players. But I’m pretty sure it’s not for me at all. Oh, I’ll try it. It’ll make for an interesting diversion and a blog post or two. That will put me in the crowd of tourists curious … [Read more...] about I’m cooling on the idea of World of Warcraft Classic
BlizzCon 2017 was packed with news for just about every major Blizzard franchise, and World of Warcraft most definitely got some of the best news. For not only did they announce the next major expansion for the game, Battle For Azeroth, which features the Alliance and the Horde once again going to war, but it also featured a surprise. You see, players have been asking for a more “classic” version of the popular MMORPG, with some of them trying to make it themselves. Well now, Blizzard has agreed to make sure it happens. Whether you want to call it World of Warcraft Classic or “Vanilla”, the intent is the same. It’s going to rewind the clock so that Azeroth is as it was when the game launched. Albeit with updated graphics and less bugs. But, there are still some question, mainly, just what will and will not be featured in said classic version? Well, a Redditor decided to help out with that. So, Boomkin4Lyfe made a survey that he wants players to take so … [Read more...] about Players Create Survey For Potential World Of Warcraft Classic Features
