Classic servers, limited time servers and fresh start servers have become increasingly popular in MMORPGs. Over the past two years, plenty of MMORPGs – especially long running ones – have released new servers that roll back to the early days of its beginnings to offer players a walk down memory lane. Age of Conan had their Saga of Zath server, ArcheAge released two new fresh start servers for both NA and EU, while RIFT has gain massive success with it’s Prime server. And let’s not forget, World of Warcraft are going to be releasing WoW Classic as well, which millions of players will no doubt jump into to experience vanilla all over again. Blizzard stunned everyone this week by announcing that WoW Classic – or at least, two zones of it – will be playable at BlizzCon as well as at home for a few days by virtual ticket holders. I’d like to say that a $50 alpha test seems a bit out of proportion, but alas, that would be a lie here in 2018. People are pretty excited for this, and my teasing title aside, I can hardly blame them. When you can get a second chance like this, you’d best take it.
