Otherland: Next kicks off with Fire Isle, an expansion that offers 90 new quests, legendary weapons, and a new social class, which is now available. Otherland: Next also features an upcoming overhaul of the UI. The new social class will work as a secondary game mode, which focuses on the social interaction between players, and will offer a totally different MMO experience, apart from the common formula. Players that choose the social class at the start of the game, and will skip the tutorial, going directly to the social hub (Lambda Mall). Tad Williams’ Otherland MMO rebrands as Otherland Next with Fire Isle expansion, social sandbox mode
Way back in March, Otherland announced a big expansion called Fire Isle, themed around Chinese mythology and launching summer 2018. It didn’t quite make that summer window, but it is here now, according to a press release from the team today. Incidentally, Drago appears to now be calling the game Otherland Next. “Drago Entertainment, developer of the Otherland MMO, introduces Otherland: Next with their big Fire Isle expansion,” Drago says. “Players can expect to have a completely new Otherland experience with 90 new quests, legendary weapons and the new social class available now, as well as an upcoming overhaul of the UI. Thanks to the close collaboration with Tad Williams, author of the much acclaimed Otherland bestseller series, players get an exclusive sneak peak of the first third of his upcoming novella by completing a special quest.” That novella is The Deathless Prince and the Peach Maiden. The “social class” might be the most … [Read more...] about Tad Williams’ Otherland MMO rebrands as Otherland Next with Fire Isle expansion, social sandbox mode
WoW’s Game Director On BfA’s Pre-Event; Metzen on Toxic Nerd Culture
A pair of interesting interviews about World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth have cropped up, one with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas and John Hight about the drama and issues around the expansion pre-event. The other is with former Blizzard developer Chris Metzen on the issue of nerd toxicity. On the issue of the controversy surrounding the Burning of Teldrassil and the community reaction: I noticed is how many people felt like the Burning of Teldrassil was supposed to be this big mystery. People expected a twist and felt like Blizzard set it up that way. Going back and watching some older developer Q&As, though, I couldn't find much evidence of that. What happened there, from your perspective? Hazzikostaks: On the internet, as this giant game of telephone to some extent, things can definitely take on a life of their own. At Blizzcon 2017, I remember Alex Afrasiabi teed up the question of who struck first: The Burning of [Teldrassil] or the assault on Lordaeron? But that was … [Read more...] about WoW’s Game Director On BfA’s Pre-Event; Metzen on Toxic Nerd Culture
Dungeons and Dragons Online announces Sharn: City of Towers expansion and Tiefling race
Play DDO for freeAt GenCon this weekend, Standing Stone Game announced a special surprise for Dungeons and Dragons Online fans: a brand-new expansion. Sharn: City of Towers is coming to the game sometime in 2019, bringing with it the much-requested Tiefling race as a character creation option (including animated tails!). Players will get “the opportunity to hobnob with high society in Sharn” while also heading down into the Cogs to seek adventure. SSG said that it wanted to do a new urban exploration setting, and Sharn was perfect with its floating towers and the dichotomy between high and low classes. Some of these adventures will even be “James Bond-like” due to stealth and spy approaches. Players should expect far more in the way of explorable areas with mini-dungeons and other discoveries. Get the full scoop directly from the game’s producer after the break! Source: DDO Players. Blizzard’s Overwatch League addresses toxicity with fines and suspensions, while the Dallas Fuel drops a toxic player
Last week, we covered an ESPN piece in which the author called out Blizzard for sitting on its hands after an Overwatch League player signed to the Dallas Fuel, Timo “Taimou” Kettunen, was caught openly using homophobic, racist, and ageist language toward other players, not the first time for the Fuel. It was just one more piece in a long series of incidents in Overwatch toxicity that’s now spilled over into the e-sports league itself. Or is it? After initially reportedly dismissing the complaint back in January, Blizzard announced this weekend that it was fining Taimou $1000 for the slurs. It also fined an LA Valiant player $1000 for account sharing, issued a “formal warning” against a Houston Outlaws player who posted an offensive meme, and fined a fourth player, Félix “xQc” Lengyel from the Dallas Fuel, $4000 for having “repeatedly used an emote in a racially disparaging manner on the league’s stream and on social media, and … [Read more...] about Blizzard’s Overwatch League addresses toxicity with fines and suspensions, while the Dallas Fuel drops a toxic player
